About iRAD

The India Radar Meteorology (iRAD) Conference is a flagship scientific forum initiated by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, to advance research in radar meteorology. Since its inception in 2017 at IIT Kharagpur, iRAD has evolved into a vibrant platform that convenes leading scientists, technologists, and professionals across the world to share insights, breakthroughs, and emerging trends in radar-based atmospheric observation, extreme weather forecasting, and climate analysis.

In continuation of the iRAD series, the 8th edition of iRAD 2026 will be hosted by Gauhati University, Assam, India from 07–09 January 2026. A specialised short course on radar meteorology will precede the event on 06 January 2026, offering hands-on learning and expert insights for early-career researchers and students.

Conference Theme

Radar Technology for Unravelling Extreme Weather Over Complex Terrain

The North-Eastern region of India, with its mountains, valleys, and rivers, is a natural laboratory for studying tropical cloud systems and extreme weather. iRAD 2026 brings together researchers and policymakers to explore how radar technology can advance prediction and resilience in this unique region.
