Pre-Conference Radar School, iRAD 2026

As part of the Conference on Indian Radar Meteorology (iRAD 2026), a one-day Pre-Conference Radar School will be organised to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of radar-based atmospheric studies. The school is designed for students, researchers and professionals seeking to strengthen their understanding of radar meteorology, from foundational principles to emerging applications.

Programme highlights

Continuing the tradition of the previous iRAD Radar Schools, this year’s programme will include a blend of lectures and interactive sessions by experts, covering broad themes such as:

  • Fundamentals and operational aspects of radar meteorology
  • Modern radar systems and observational networks across land, sea and space platforms
  • Retrieval and interpretation of microphysical parameters from radar data
  • AI and contemporary tools for radar data processing and analysis
  • Radar data assimilation and its role in weather and climate research
  • Applications of radar observations to precipitation estimation and monsoon studies, with emphasis on the complex terrain and atmospheric dynamics of North East India

Hands-on sessions

A special feature of the 2026 edition will be hands-on sessions at the ST Radar Centre, Gauhati University, focusing on data analysis, visualisation and interpretation of radar observations. These sessions will enable participants to gain practical experience in working with real datasets and understanding their meteorological significance.

Details regarding speakers and schedule will be announced in due course of time.
